Anyways, I mentioned on the Discord that Joel admitted some years ago that when the switchover first happened, he did poke around a few bulletin boards to troll the debate, and then quickly stopped when he saw just how vicious and personal the fight was getting.
@TlalocW There’s been some complaints about Jonah and/or Emily… but the one that some people really kicked up a fuss about was the Kelsey Ann Brady (i.e. female) Crow voice. Granted it did take a little getting used to for many viewers, but talk about an “I hate ___’s new voice” kind of thing, yii.
Met Joel when he was doing a show with Cinematic Titanic in St. Charles. My mom told him the story of how her water broke with my brother from laughing so hard at “Attack of the Eye Creatures.” His only response was “Glad we could help!”
For those not in the know, that movie being MST3K’d is called “The Brain That Wouldn’t Die” from 1962, about a scientist who keeps his girlfriend’s head alive in a pan on his bench after a car accident.
Saw it many moons ago, now I wanna see the MST3K version… 😁
Oh, man, do I remember the MST3K Joel-Mike wars of the 90s. I would derail them by telling them that the guy before Joel was the best. There were also mini-wars over Josh vs Kevin, Trace vs Bill, and then a bigger one of Trace vs Mary Jo. I’ve been lax in watching the Gizmoplex, but I’ve seen live shows with both Jonah and Emily, and they both did great.
Boy, it sure is great to be living in the 2020’s where discourse over the host of MST3K still doesn’t continue! Especially not with the added misogyny over a female host too!
