Eric didn’t actually get into his camp, so technically he never escaped it.

“Um…yes there is. There’s nothing but flat, open ground ahead of us. We can quite easily continue running. Have you had your eyes checked recently?”
“Don’t you EVER get tired?”
We can say the same thing about you, Marshal!
Those two have a lot of energy. Advantage to being young.
