Nice to see one of the good elements of Joel being used- this being self examination, the other being snark.
It’s not that bad for Joel. Aaron broke his leg the last time it happened. At least Michelle is there to give Joel something to be happy about. Now can she talk him into going back on stage? The band was paid for!
One of the many reasons I love this couple so much is that they complement each other so well. They each provide something that the other needs — Joel listens to and encourages Michelle’s geekiness when everyone else is sick of it, and Michelle picks Joel up and shows him the bright side when all he can see is the negative. They just work perfectly together!
@Lourenzo Yeah if there’s one thing I appreciate about this version of Tucker is that his antagonism is toned down to the point where he’s now genuinely funny (most of the time at least).
I get what you’re saying but its really not as big of a problem as it was before. Kevin and Tucker are toned down, Tina and Lindsay are nice now. They really crazy antagonists are pretty minor characters that we don’t have to deal with for too long.
As for this particular strip, I love it because it shows Joel reaching some kind of breaking point and getting cheered up by Michelle. It’s the type of emotion I like seeing from the characters because you rarely ever see them so genuinely upset, and makes it all the more powerful.
Hey man, I’m really sorry about what I said earlier. I wasn’t TRYING to shit on you or anything. Like I said, I make observations to characters and story so I can find ways where you can improve, because I know you take your work seriously as something you wish to pursue a career in.
I think when it comes to the antagonistic characters like Kevin, Jessica, that one McDonalds’ manager, and Allie is that they come off as so one-dimensional that you hate them less for being jerks and more so for just simply not having much character beyond being jerks. Not to mention at least half of them get away with their behavior.

Don’t worry, Joel, it’ll come. In the meantime, practice and cable management.

Got to say, that was pretty heartwarming right there.
