If the three shows, I’d say Rugrats had the better staying power. It also had adult humour, but it was far more hidden than the gross-out of Ren and Stimpy. R&S set the world on fire, but those “dumb babies” built an empire.
@TheJayster49: Oh, this was right when it was taking off. It’s just that for a while, one of those three initial Nicktoons waaaaayyyy eclipsed the other two. Rugrats didn’t start overtaking Ren and Stimpy until John K. proved to be incredibly unreliable in terms of getting episodes done on time.
@TheJayster49: It’s not that they were unpopular, it’s that they were new. “Doug”, “Rugrats”, and “Ren and Stimpy” were the first three original animated series on Nickelodeon — the first Nicktoons.

Give it time kid, I thought the same about Doug. It grows on ya. And also, she’s not wrong, Ren and Stimpy can get disturbing at points.

I was definitely a Rugrats fan when I was a kid, but grew out of it by the time Chuckie’s stepsister became a show regular.
You know, its unrealated to the current story, but I think that Eric and Joel would get along
I agree with Eric comments regarding Rugrats and Doug. Never really was a fan of either of those shows.
Guessing Nickelodeon animation wasn’t too popular back in 1991, was it?
