I remember seeing REN & STIMPY when it first started, and realizing from the art style that it was from the same people responsible for that bizarre MIGHTYMOUSE remake that appeared on CBS. I passed on it for that… although the same thing with RUGRATS didn’t make me pass up DUCKMAN. Hmmmm…
Keep in mind this is coming off the era with an all american army fighting a snake theme terrorist group, two robot factions in a war against each other, and an adaptation of a movie about four men fighting ghosts that went way more outlandish and scary then it’s source material. But a deranged animation about a cat and dog. Oh that’s just too far.
Aw, Ren and Stimpy. That was a great cartoon, until some vague point when it wasn’t. The “blame television for everything, take responsibility for nothing” movement was pretty strong at the time.
Actually, I seem to recall a story about TMNT: after the original 5-episode pilot series aired, parents started protesting the show’s supposed “violence”. They made such a huge stink about it that the writers had to make major changes. From then on, Bebop and Rocksteady could no longer carry guns, and Leonardo couldn’t actually cut anyone with his swords — not even the Foot Soldiers, who were clearly shown to be robots. He could only use his swords to reflect laser beams and such.

…Oh, Kendra, I’m so, so sorry.

…I liked Hey Dude. What’s next, potshots at Salute Your Shorts? 😉
Ren and Stimpy, I liked the show even if the creator was a very bad person.
Imagine how upset Kendra will be in 30 years when she learns John K. is a pedo.

Even if the creator turned out to be a creep, this show was still funny
Okay, the Ren and Stimpy Show is DEFINITELY something Jenny would love and I’d be disappointed if she didn’t.
