While I think it’s a little unfair to jump down one person’s throat for having a dissenting opinion, I do greatly enjoy this new continuity more than the old one. The characters feel happier and more upbeat and overall nicer, and while there’s still the occasional one-dimensional bad guy to knock down, they’re usually entertaining in their own right to be enjoyable. The art has clearly evolved from the early days, making things feel cartoonish yet grounded at the same time. And the tweaks to the Duquesnes make things a lot less dark and a lot more optimistic. It’s the comic that I fell in love with, reborn like a phoenix.
There we have it, from JB himself. I’m pretty sure this isn’t the first time he’s made it clear, either. This is “his” story, and he’s long since done trying to cater to the clamoring of those who focus more on complaining about what they perceive to be “wrong”. We need only look at the previous dark continuity to see what happens when a creator tries to make everyone happy: A directionless mess of a product, and that’s putting it lightly.
JB, keep up what you’re going. Most of us appreciate the time and effort you put into your comic.
@gonzo22 Seriously. What the fuck do you want him to do? No matter what he dies, you find a reason to complain! Take your “criticism” and shove it up your ass!
-Guys, do I have to deactivate the comments? Is that what it’s come to?
-It’s a storyline at a school’s Debate Club, and people are debating things.
-I hate this because it’s garbage.
-I disagree. The comic is nowhere near that level of stupid, and has already been at that level some time ago and gotten better in tone.
At the moment, Joscelyn’s in a location where she should be receiving a calling out on her constant, constant, verbal abuse to one and all, and her Bug Bunny level of freedom from normality and consequences. JB’s get all the points lined up, but instead it’s swerved into bashing whoever stands in opposition to Jocelyn. Another example of her Wish you into the Cornfield powers, instead of her being the unpredictable cool kid she used to be.
Guys, do I have to deactivate the comments? Is that what it’s come to?
General rule of thumb, folks: if you’re only hear to whine and grumble about how much you wish Nineteen-Ninety-Something was a different comic, I will ignore your comment on principle, so don’t bother. I already took your nasty feedback to heart once before, and I had to start the whole series over again because I hated what I’d turned my work into just to please the people who hated it. I’m trying my absolute hardest not to let that happen again.
@gonzo22: “I don’t like this comic because it doesn’t appeal to me specifically” is not constructive criticism. It’s just being a jerk for no reason.
Plenty of us come here and have fun with something we enjoy, only to be interrupted by you essentially yelling “stop having fun!!”, even if that wasn’t what you were going for.
Stop arguing with everyone and get out of here. There are literally thousands upon thousands of webcomics out there for you to find.
The better question to ask about @gonzo22 is, why did he choose THIS strip to burst in unsolicited and complain about how immoral and self-centered the characters are in his mind? Is there POSSIBLY any connection between that, and a comic slamming America for letting a fucker like David Duke have a pretty good chance at grabbing a gubernatorial seat? Hmm….
I’m not being a jerk here. I’m just saying that JB’s way of writing doesn’t work and it’s too one dimensional. I’m just giving my opinion on it. It doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy. I just come here every so often to check on how their doing and when stories like the ones he does is currently up it annoys me. Sorry but my curiosity gets the better of me. But I guess if JB isn’t going to change his (What I think is ) very flawed writing and is going to keep writing this way then I don’t really have a way with it. It just annoys me that this series to me has lost it’s quality and is no longer enjoyable. I’m just coming here to give some constructive criticism that’s all but I guess that won’t work with JB.
Gonzo: Sorry sir, you’re in a minority there. You can make all the excuses you want, but if you’ve not gotten what you clamor for by now, it’s time to accept that JB is not going to change “his” comic strip just for “you”. Just because you cannot relate to JB’s own life, which he has said many times is the central force to his storylines and has been in every iteration of the strip, doesn’t mean you can keep trashing it at every turn. As long as you’ve been doing it, yes, it IS your schtick. One would think it obvious by now that the direction JB has been taking it is not for you.
Mole: Holy shit, we actually agree on something. I think this might be the second time that’s ever happened. I should buy a lottery ticket….
Hey This is me coming back and giving this series multiple chances okay. It’s harder than it looks than simply quitting and not coming back because I spent so much time in this series before, It’s hard to just quit entirely because I’m hoping that maybe one day the series will get back. Also I’m not doing a shtick and I don’t like it when people are getting angry at me for not giving the series anything less than Blind and complete Praise. I don’t want to hate this series but I really think it has lost it’s joy and I’m not the only one with this mindset.
I took a break of commenting here and it seems you do more of the same. Make all of the Teens you like into being always in the right and anyone who disagrees with them into annoying one-dimensional caricatures. This whole comic series has the thing of ‘Protagonist-Centered Morality’. This story is no fun to read. It hasn’t been for years and I’ve trying to give your story some constructive criticism but it’s always ignored.
It’s no fun or interesting when anyone who disagrees with the main characters are portrayed as extreme unstable or clearly in the wrong. This whole comment is more for the previous story but you get my point. I don’t know why though I keep coming back. Maybe because I hope you would begin fixing things so I can have joy again in comic series that I did like back in the day but has has lost it’s fun side.
The only thing America does really well is refuse to agree about anything.
There are many people in many countries that make the mistake to believe that anyone who is campaigning for a high level political office must therefore have the ability to hold that office. Or they would have tried for a lesser office.
David Duke should have been thrown off an office building long before 1991. Not one of lesser height.
Thankfully, David Duke did not win the Louisiana governor election in 1992. Too bad he who must not be named won the presidency back in 2016. Least he’s out of power.

Keep being awesome, JB. Rock on.

“The more things change, the more they stay the same” – Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr, 1849. Still true.

gonzo22: dude, this whole “woe is me, why do I read this” shtick is so transparent. Do fuck off with that attitude.
@gonzo22 Well, then, there’s one thing I think you should do…
STOP READING AND COMMENTING!!

Joel’s looking right at the audience for a reason!

I’m guessing Joel REALLY wouldn’t like Rick’s dad then lol
