“He regularly misspells character names” Mostly Joscelin or Jocelyn. JB just chose weird names for a few characters. Duquesne as well. I have misspelled Katey and Ashley pretty often. Ashleigh. “Katey and Ashley are so together that they went interchangeable with parts of their names.” Mich isn’t a misspelling, it’s just shortening. Having characters be unbelievably stupid isn’t a good punchline, but the amount of misplaced swearing has gone down so that’s good. It’s still not acceptable writing, but it has to start somewhere if it’s going to end up entertaining. Eric would not be any fun to read if he acted the same as Jerk boy and Dumb boy.
@TV Head – Mole is a troll, don’t let him try to tell you otherwise. He regularly misspells character names, especially the girls, and he’s said maybe 2 positive things in dozens of comments. JB once told him to leave and not return, and he largely ignores him, as well.
I’ve long since stopped giving his posts any consideration owing to his blatant disrespect for JB and his characters.
@ tv head- I never ‘troll’. It is beneath me. I simply have a different viewpoint than you. The villains are often the only characters working towards a goal. JB long ago lost the thread of characters having fun or characters trying to work their way up to something they enjoy, like Joel’s once-dream of starting a band. For all his talk about playing rock music, Joel isn’t competent enough to even write up a school schedule, or figure out which classes to play the numbers at. This week’s comic is just Joel moping about overwork that he should have already handled. It’s not even a wacky take on “I have to do everything in 24 hours or I’ll flunk school due to a scantron gap math. Let’s do something crazy with a pencil!”
And yes, I do get some enjoyment of the comic from time to time. They can’t all be winners. But they aren’t all duds either. I’m glad that the comic has improved so much. I think that some of what you think is me being criticizing, is just comparative chatting. It only -sounds- bad. But hey, mistakes are clearly made often in 1990Something. Right now JB seems to be restricting “this crazy plan is possible!” to Steve. Funny enough, I suspect JB’s a bit overworked himself. It must just be a seasonal low.
Yeah though, as they say “get ya coming and going”. Indeed what the point of functioning in society if you can’t be happy doing what you wish as a career. That not a healthy mentality, that keeping a lid on a part that make you who you are. Sure not all experiences are gonna be colorful, but at least that’s a hill you’re willing to climb on your own then following someone who went their own path and doesn’t even try to understand that life doesn’t have to be a jaded and cynical assembly line.
Well, with all of those stomach pains, maybe it’ll help Joel write some songs. Heck thats how Kurt Cobain wrote some of his because of constant ulcers and stomach problems.
@TV Head: And on top of that, Einstein was a poor student and got fired from like three jobs before he found his groove
@Mole204: Einstein ALSO said that imagination was more important than rote memorization of factoids, and this kind of schooling leaves little room for imagination.
Mole204, can I ask you a question? Do you get any joy out of this webcomic?
It seems that you only ever comment to disagree with the message of the comic and to claim that the very clearly marked villains are the ones in the right.
Is this really what you think? Are you just faking to troll?
I’m genuinely curious. I get the feeling you’ll interpret this as snark or passive-aggressive, but I am very literal.
“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by it’s ability to climb a tree, it will live it’s whole life believing that it is stupid.” -attributed to Albert Einstein.
Einstein’s genius was to be a little good at math, and getting the chances to sit down and do the work.
Gosh, you’d think that Joel needed some time off- like March Break or Christmas vacation or something. He’s right in the 3rd panel. He would be a failure if he didn’t finish high school. Too bad Michelle can’t hack the database with a roll of tinfoil and give Joel double music class.
I had to 2 senior semesters in high school. I was meant to graduate in 2013, but ended up finishing in 2014 just so I could finish the last of mandatory classes I needed to graduate.
(sorry if that doesn’t really relate to this situation, thought it seemed relevant)

Ey, there’s the negligence mention. Haha.

Poor Joel…

At least Joel has earned a good rest on Michelle’s muffintop. 😉

Psst, Aaron – three’s a crowd. Go get a pizza or something, and take your time. Give Michelle a chance to – raise Joel’s spirits. 😏
At this rate, Joel is better off getting A GED.

You know things are bad when Aaron’s the one spitting facts.
