So they can’t just go around using the replicators as much as they want because they have to ration the ship’s energy between stops.
That’s why Neelix became the chef – he knows Delta Quadrant flora and fauna better than anyone, so he can just cook everyone’s food himself. It’s just tough for the crew to adjust, because it’s not exactly Alpha Quadrant cuisine 😅
Hang on, “replicator credits”? Isn’t Star Trek supposed to take place in a post-scarcity universe where most societies have done away with capitalism altogether? So why would you need to pay to replicate stuff?
