There once was a time when Tolkien was only for the nerdiest of nerds, before Peter Jackson and the human muppet named Andy Serkis showed up and made it “cool”.
Even though I’m a massive Muppet fan, I missed out on both of these growing up. MTI, despite having it on VHS, was the last of the theatrical movies I saw (before the 2011 film)/only saw the sing-along tape https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jZFMcrF-xE
In 1996, the Muppets had a little bit of a comeback with a new movie and show.
Thirty years later, they did again with a backdoor pilot special, and a new theme park ride.
While Muppets Tonight didn’t last too long, and Muppet Treasure Island didn’t do so great at the box-office, Jim’s gang still entertains and enlightens their fans after all these years. And May they continue to do so for years.
Steve’s creativity is absolutely mind-blowing. I have always loved Muppets in general and Muppet Treasure Island and Muppets tonight are highly underrated. Plus, I would pay money to see a puppet adaptation of Lord Of The Rings.

Kermit as Frodo: “I will take the ring to Mordor! Yaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy!” *waves arms frantically*
@Jim: Oh absolutely. I would loved to have seen how their own Muppet-esque take on “Lord of the Rings” turned out.
And just when Disney+ released that new Muppet Show episode.
What timing!

& Muppets Tonight I only knew through 2 coloring books which I thought were completely original content made just for those, not based on real stuff. https://muppet.fandom.com/wiki/Gonzo%27s_Silly_Skits_and_Classic_Bits, https://muppet.fandom.com/wiki/Muppets_Jumbo_Coloring_Book (you can imagine the amount of “oh, THAT’S where it’s from!” when I saw the eps on YT in the late 2000s)

I forgot that 1996 was a leap year, so seeing the Sunday comics on a Tuesday again threw me for a loop.
Now this should’ve been a full storyline.

Even Steve can make his own Muppets.
Heh, finally watched Muppet Treasure Island last month and we’re getting a comic centered around Muppet Treasure Island. Is timing good or what? XD
