She’s trying to keep things from escalating, this moron insults her and continues to act condescending. Oh yeah, a real voice of the black community he is (◔_◔).
@Nic Kramer: Speech is and always has been the one constant in Arrested Development’s lineup, it’s basically his project. I think it’d depend on the timing of their appearance on Sesame Street vs the release date of Zingalamaduni.
So, not knowing much of the rap group, was Speech still in the group when they were on “Sesame Street” (which I enjoyed) or was he already out? Sounds like hewouldn’t like the whole concept of a diverse community.
@Jim: It was very different from other Trainwreckords videos, it was framed more like Todd trying to figure out why Zingalamaduni didn’t just bomb, it seemed to erase Arrested Development’s prior success from history. What he found was, a lot of it had to do with Speech.
Guy was a massive control freak behind the scenes and it caused a lot of internal strife in the band (something Jesse has referenced abundantly here), sidelining Headliner before eventually firing him (also referenced in this storyline), then Dionne Faris left the group mid-tour because she was also sick of Speech. Speech also got even preachier, and about stuff he either was not informed enough about or should not be talking about.
Didn’t help that they chose, like, the most downbeat songs on the album to be singles.
He also went a little into the whole gangsta vs conscious feud that had been blooming since 1992, and how AD was constantly being passive-aggressive to artists like Dr. Dre as part of their Afrocentrism thing. (Something which is ALSO being referenced in this story with Darren inevitably butting heads with Vince)
Also one of the comments on the vid is from a Kenyan who noted that the title of that album is basically gibberish in Swahili, so they failed even on that front, which I think is ALSO being referenced in this story, as Darren’s own Afrocentrism is just as performative.
I hope that answers your question, and if not, seek out the video yourself.
Anyways, thanks to Todd in the Shadows giving me the CONTEXT behind this storyline, I can safely say 2 things:
1. Fuck Speech, Speech is an asshole, and I can see why this guy is styling himself after him.
2. The last laugh will be on Darren; Zingalamaduni is only two years away and then Arrested Development will be erased from the collective memory forever.
@Toon-Resurrection92: He is trying to sound smart so that we forget about the sexism and racism he regularly spews out in this comments section, and trying to find the tiniest sliver of connecting tissue that justifies his appalling views and makes Jesse and all of us the bad guys for not agreeing with him.
@Mole204: He has no point whatsoever. This guy’s sole reason for thinking he’s better than Vince is he doesn’t use AAVE, and that’s YOUR sole reason for saying he’s right. And if you think AAVE makes Vince sound stupid, that’s… SHOCKINGLY barefaced racism on your part.
I know he’s being cast as the bad guy, but I gotta admit Darren’s right- for the first two panels.
And of course, it’s down to fighting. Of course Darren wouldn’t win. It would change the status quo of the comic that any of the protagonist-idiots get told what’s for and they understand it.
Darren is intelligent, while Vince is the type of character that exists solely to tell ‘dumbness’ jokes. “Erudite? That’s dat stuf that Superman is scared of, right?” or at best “Dat’s sommin they’a making the space shuttle out of, right?”
I had expected a Kendra story, but perhaps we’ll get someone calling out the fact that it’s Darren vs Aaron.

Whoa, this is the first time we heard/read Kendra swear
Thanks, Christopher

@Christopher Max Wall: What did Todd say?
I’m starting to think that Kendra might be the one to do the punching.

Aaron my man, defending his woman from that spiritual poser!
Also, does Mole204 have to over analyze everything?
The REAL question is, what’s Aaron got against pineapple pizza? I love me some Hawaiian pizza, that’s good stuff!

I missed the part where that jackass said he was better than everyone. That would make ME want to kick in his teeth.
Woo!! Step up, Aaron! XD
When you actually manage to piss off Aaron, you KNOW you’ve made an enemy for life.
And shit just hit the fan.
