@Plocb: I meant the issue of the story as a whole. I see where Becca is coming from and indeed she’s not completely wrong. But wrong methods is still wrong in general and Joyce has to practically spell it out for her: You can be strong and independent, especially from crappy upbringings, but that doesn’t automatically make you a better person. You still need to be open-minded that not everyone is out to screw you over, be it male or female. Like you said, one side thinking helps no one. Heck Aaron, Joel and Steve have no beef with her in the previous strips, the former tried to offer some advice but she didn’t want to listen. Steve only traded sarcasm when she insulted him. And they’re still bantering with her on friendly terms. Their actions have proven otherwise and they’ve been nothing but good friends and people to both her and Joyce (Sarcasm aside), but Becca has been too clouded by her crusade to really see it. That’s the halfway I’m talking about, her actions composed to theirs.
@Toonlegion No, Becca is still generally in the right; Jocelyn notes that she has some good points. It’s her approach that’s wrong. Radicalization hurts the causes it claims to serve more than it helps. I hope we see more of Becca, and I hope she grows. Or maybe she’ll run into Jocelyn’s ex…
What’s this, something gender-related that actually meets halfway on the subject? Portraying both the cons and pros and showing one side isn’t in the right? I’ll be dipped, haven’t seen that in media in a long while.
Wait… so Becca actually LISTENED!? I’m in awe right now!
And, yeah, Jocelyn pretty much gave the sort of speech I was hoping she’d give (though I was hoping she’d point out that the sex is not the problem as the harasser could be either male or female).
And now either Becca will take what Jocelyn said and change her viewpoint, or she will still be convinced that these guys brainwashed her (especially considering Joel’s line at the end… which I think may have been too much info).
Either way, given how she screamed into the mic there, she was probably being recorded, and now lost her gig with the studio. So she’ll get consequences for something.
I like how Jocelyn points out that Becca is correct. She has every right to be angry over harassment and the whole system that ignores and normalizes it. However, lashing out at any convenient target doesn’t accomplish anything good.(In fact, the only people she’s hurting are…the ones willing to sympathize with her in the first place.) Moral certainty is no substitute for tactical accuracy.

@Toonlegion. I get what you mean. Lately it feels like a complete one sided argument. It’s just refreshing to read something that’s in between.

If only other people would listen that easily.

It was either an epiphany or a slap. Glad Joce chose the former.
In the previous continuity, this would’ve ended with Jocelyn punching Becca out and THEN delivering her speech.
Needless to say, I prefer this version.

Also, Courtney Love is a dumb bitch.
Clue-by-four…UPSIDE the tits!
It is up to you to make a choice, Becca. And you should choose WISELY.
Honestly, I hope Jocelyn’s speech gave Becca the wake-up call she needed.
Becca ACTUALLY looks genuinely caught off-guard in the third panel there. Hopefully that means Jocelyn finally talked SOME sense into her.
One of two possibilities:
1. She realizes her mistakes and calms down
2. Hurricane Becca turns into a Category 5
And now comes the moment of truth – will Becca listen to reason, or will she brand Jocelyn as a “gender traitor”?
