Well, this was an underwhelming way to end a very promising but a tad wasted arc. I know Ashleigh as a character can’t carry an entire one-month long story arc by herself but I wish there was an actual buildup to her finding herself thing, like, I don’t know, some evidence, ANY evidence: hints in previous strips, Easter eggs, heck, I’d even settle for a quick throwaway line, a second punchline, anything. Don’t take this wrong way, JB, I think you’re a pretty solid writer but when it comes to bi representation I can get ANALLY nitpicky and tend to always feel like I’m either being pandered to or that I’m being made to feel invisible. Having said that, it is nice to see that she got immediately accepted by both her best friend AND her mother though their open-mindedness and receptivity are pushing my suspension of disbelief somewhat. It is the 90s, after all.
@ jb: Well, I didn’t think that back in February. I just did a little refresher course (checking if this Melanie has existed before). & when I reread that Feb 15th strip, well, why NOT make wild assumptions? We’ll just have to see on Wednesday.
I was just about to ask if Melanie has been in the comic & we just didn’t know it (like as a no-name background extra) &… seems to be right. (she’s that other established friend in Katy & Ash’s circle)
Accepting, dazed. If Ashleigh’s mom is dazed long enough, it’s the same as acceptance.
Ashley and Katey as a couple wouldn’t have been surprising, but would have been a little small when it comes to the amount of characters who are supposed to exist.
All’s well as long as the story keeps moving, sometimes. Joscelin’s appearance was unexpectedly brief, so now the new question is who’s Melanie Telvin? And what would she think about Ashleigh?
Damn, I was honestly rooting for them to get together XD
Well, let’s just hope this Melanie person feels the same way (or even swings that way), cause I’m already getting a sinking feeling she might not return Ashleigh’s advances.
@M
Huh, so it is. I guess I got a li’l bit ahead of myself there, didn’t I. Now I feel like a tool.
Why are some of you talking like this arc is over? It’s a 2-weeker that’ll resume this Wednesday.
Ah good, her mom understands. So is there more to this, will she see if her crush feels the same or will this lead into drama?
I like this, it feels like a real conversation
Good resolution.
And drama is easy–Comedy is hard.
So–good writing, too.
Uh-oh, it’s serious. Floaty hearts…

@Zach Kenny: Glad to see you’re paying attention 😁

I wonder if her reaction in the last panel of THIS strip could be… subtle hints. https://1990somethingcomic.com/comic/february-15-1992/
(if I accidentally ended up spoiling the rest of this arc, Jesse, sorry)
C8, you sunk my ship!

Nice to know Ashleigh’s Mom is open minded. Best of luck to Ashleigh on pursuing your crush.
