One thing I am definitely not looking forward to is seeing Tina in her original “holier than thou” moral guardian phase. Please tell me it’s gonna be toned down here.
I’m noticing an interesting change in Katy’s design here. Like, she looks kinda older compared to the original NNS (i.e. she doesn’t appear to be as skinny and even has some slight curves). Maybe it’s the evolved art style, or I might just be noticing something that I may not have noticed before. Either way, I felt like pointing that out because it caught my eye.
One last thing, I also noticed how, when you first started the original NNS, Katy was the snarky one while Joel was the happy-go-lucky one. Looking back on it, it’s amusing since you now have a better grasp of the characters. This particular arc instead cuts to the chase and better establishes them to the audience (even if a majority of them are already familiar).
I can only hope, however, that Joel doesn’t come off as too unintentionally unsympathetic as he did in the original strips. I mean, he doesn’t really come off as very “friendly” in this strip. A victim of persecution or not, Joel’s character is one in dire need of reworking, I’m sorry to say. He got way better in later stories, but you didn’t really give him a very good first impression.
So you’re going to reuse some of the one-off strips from the original version? That’s cool.
The only real difference is that you switched the characters around, which makes sense since it always seemed out of character for Katy to be that sarcastic and cynical.

Dang, talk about a reversal of roles right there.
Jayster – I think he means the David Hasselhoff song, which would be this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdKVX45wYeQ
@Taigan – He’s talking about “Like a Prayer.”
Fifth panel: the lights switching off after Joel smacks his head.
Taigan: I’ve been looking for freeeeedom!
I still don’t know which song they mean.

Joel seems a bit more jaded here. Perhaps when he meets Michelle he’ll start to become more optimistic again.
