Very unlikely. That would imply that the 90s predicted the meme before the 2010s made it a thing.
Sure, the 60s Spider-Man show existed, which is where the meme came from, but THE meme with the 3 big cinematic Spideys is a 2010s thing.
No way the 90s would make a reference to something that doesn’t exist yet.
@Mega she clearly had some idea of who he was,she did say (eventually) he was the “scary breathy guy” from Star Wars. The guy who made me,as a child,scared to watch the OT but upon facing my fears and watching Ep. 4 for the first time,actually laughed at him.
Called it. Saying “a guy dressed as Darth Vader” at a sci-fi convention is like saying “a grain of sand” at the beach.
Also, how does Lindsay not know who Darth Vader is? He’s one of the most iconic fictional characters of all time, sci-fi or otherwise. You could have grown up under a rock and you’d still know who he is!
Also, I only just noticed that the kid dressed as Vader in panel 4 is holding a balloon shaped like the Death Star. ^_^
