And The Nile isn’t a river in Egypt sister. =P. I would say Ronald the cause but if that brief arc where she accompanies Joyce to her aunt’s house is any indication. This feels like it goes a little deeper, I’m sensing neglect and a need for co-dependence here, even if Ronald’s obviously lording over her.
1) NO ONE should be trusted unquestioned. Period.
2) I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I honestly think that at some point in our era, Phyllis is in a much better place and has a good relationship with her daughter. Especially after Ronald is out of the picture. Don’t know how, but that’s my guess. Because the other way is so very sad that I don’t want to think about it.
@Exxor: Back when Vicky was (re)introduced to the series during the Stafford Family Christmas story, she mentions that her parents did something to her, implying that they were abusive towards her or something.
Phyllis’ face gets wider in every panel…
And the last panel indicates that she knows there’s something wrong but doesn’t wanna believe it or address it…
Huh… Did he hit her? It’s just, she’s acting way more like a kiss-ass than before her recent character development, and that comment that she “of all people” would know that Ron would never do anything to hurt someone…
Phyllis KNOWS her husband is crazy. So now I wonder, what did he do to HER to make her so damn obedient? And the comment on trusting him without question? I feel like Ronald is a Commie in disguise at this point.

Calling it now – Phyllis will have her own “Bridges of Madison County” arc that will make her question everything.
You can tell that if this was animated, here’s where the eye-twitching would be
If Comrade
NapoleonRonald says it, it must be right! Is Phyllis the powderkeg in this family, primed and ready to blow up? Then again, JB said he doesn’t want to get things too serious…
Her husband was Fuckin’ Nuts??

You can’t escape the truth with needlework forever, Phyllis!

Besides everything involving Russ, have we ever seen Joyce this dead-set serious before in the first 5 years?
Huh… Did he hit her? It’s just, she’s acting way more like a kiss-ass than before her recent character development, and that comment that she “of all people” would know that Ron would never do anything to hurt someone…
I dunno, maybe I’m reading too much into it.
Phyllis has been trapped in the denial stage for so long.

Of course Phyllis is still in denial.
Like I said yesterday, Eva Braun.
I believe this is the denial stage of grief.
