I dread a bit the lack of serious, awful family dynamics in this reboot, especially for Jocelyn and Aaron, they were well thought-out and plausible, although I feel we never reached the logical conclusion with Aaron’s father. Given that, I like Joel’s mother being far more open and loving. The freaked out uber-evangelical protest mother role never really suited her well, I thought, and went on longer than I think she would have, given Joel and his sister’s attempts to get her to untwist her panties (so to speak). This, is nice to see. I guess I’m beginning to see the advantages, but part of the more serious transgressions was getting to see their comeuppance. I loved Lindsay’s story arc, for example, especially when she finally got a clue and turned her back on her previous life. I wouldn’t mind toning down Aaron’s dad a bit, but please, give Jocelyn her nemeses (that means Lindsay too). Or, you know, don’t. As I’ve said before, it’s your strip, your creation, and I’ll eagerly look forward to it regardless.
@Mole204: It was mentioned in an earlier strip that the bet had to be 3 figures, so presumably the minimum is $100. Even today, that can make a sizable debt in someone’s wallet.
And Joel here proves that your parents making out will always be gross. Even if it’s just lovey-dovey talk. You’ll change your mind when a girl likes you.
Hey, Joel, you really should appreciate that your parents still are this much in love with each other. Trust me when I say, it could be a LOT worse, though you won’t remember because of the reset, but, at least two people close to you had VERY unhappy homes waiting for them in the last timeline.
I swear, an Alderaan Star Wars reference for the next strip would be perfect. Just think about it. William is watching another channel on TV, or maybe he is about to go to bed, when he suddenly says: “I felt a great disturbance, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror…” CUT TO the whole neigbourhood screaming NOO! at the top of their lungs. CUT BACK. “I fear something terrible has happened… Guess I’ll find out tomorrow.”
I actually looked up “Mike Tyson’s first loss” just to make a remark on Williams’ comment in the second panel, and I’m just now discovering that this arc is actually about that.

Mike Tyson…
Perfect until that night…
Explains everything after that
Yeah, Joel, you don’t wanna watch as William’s right hand slips lower and lower…

Aw, cut ’em some slack, Joel. William and Tina getting frisky is the reason you exist.

Okay, that was a sweet moment between William and Tina. William thought smart, because Buster Douglas handed Mike Tyson his first loss that night.
‘Can’t let it be said that crabby Joel isn’t useful as a voice of reason.
It’s just $20, man. Go back to work tomorrow and earn more.

The more you know 😛
