While I definitely think the writing could use some work, I at least TRY to be constructive with my criticisms and will never outright insult Jesse since I know he’s trying his damndest. Especially since the reboot does in fact make a more clearer effort to fix problems past iterations of the comic faced.
@Pichu-82: True, but he still got Lindsay, Jocelyn, and Ashleigh’s names wrong.
Am I the only one who, upon seeing a forum post littered with spelling and/or grammar mistakes, instantly loses any desire to actually consider the merits of the post itself? I mean, if you can’t be bothered to proofread your post, why should I be bothered to read it? (I know, I know, it’s the Internet, but still!)
Oh, good, Mole’s back to insulting JB’s writing again. Y’know, I’d started to get worried. You know your criticism is never constructive or helpful, right, Mole?
Poor Joel, it’s tough being genre savvy when someone else has control over the story arc. I think 4th panel is taking events with exactly the right amount of fear.
@Jayster and Lotso- I disagree, but character growth and daily life are not the same things. There is a lot of room in life for stupid mistakes, but as we’ve seen JB write that can mean there’s no room for humor or a punchline. Also it only breaks down to 4 options-
1-Mistaken motivation: Katy tries to act mature and grown up in all the worst ways. 2-Outside motivation:(First Lindsey, perhaps now Joscelyn’s biker aunt?) tries to teach her to swear in some sort of “Where were you going with this?” goal-less attempt at toughening her up. 3-Offensive Motivation: She tries to do the Vince word salad. 4-Casual accident: Innocent mistakes like Michelle printing out Katy’s homework and picking up entirely the wrong page under it? I don’t know how else to set-up Katy reading aloud a “letters to playboy” or “early internet Sailor Moon fanfic” over the phone to Ashly. Anyway, Katy’s clueless innocence is one of the few traits she has going in her favor.
@Lotso – Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Katy drop an F-bomb throughout the entire run of the comic (original or reboot). Maybe I just wasn’t paying too close attention, but that would be fun to see XD
@TheJayster49 That’s a very interesting analysis, and I think it may actually happen. We all saw what happened with Kevin. He and Lindsay went through some heavy character development. Maybe JB has plans, and maybe some f-bombs, for her.
This interestingly provides an instance where Katy needs character development not just at the request of readers but also because of her actions in-universe.
Katy’s personality can pretty much be summarized as “boys, fashion, pop music, and ditziness”. It’s getting to the point where it’s biting her in the ass because she refuses to let herself either not make a situation about her or learn from her mistakes.
Believe me, I think a LOT of us wouldn’t mind seeing Katy get some focus where her character grows beyond her obsession with boys, fashion, and pop music. Seeing that she has actual friends outside of Ashleigh is a good start, but it’s been kinda stagnant since then.
Once again, I must say: WE’VE STILL GOT 8 YEARS LEFT. That’s more than enough time for things to progress in any way JB sees fit.

If anyone thinks that I’m trying to insult JB, I’m not. This is easily my favorite iteration of the comic. JB really is a good writer!

Power tool racing is actually a thing, maybe William should get into that.
@Cristopher Max Wall – At least he spelled Katy and Michelle’s names right this time. Shame that’s never consistent.

Meant saw. My bad.

Don’t worry, William, the saw will pull it’s own power cord out in a second…
