Okay, Ronald, here’s something the Bible ACTUALLY says:
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!”
Matthew 7:21-23
Sounds familiar, doesn’t it, Ronald? If that verse doesn’t describe the likes of you, I don’t know what does! You’re not close with God at all! If anything, you’re more like Satan than anybody else in this comic. I can’t wait for the preacher at your church to give your lunatic ego a reality check, and even that I’m not sure would do any good. We’ll see what happens, but I know whatever it will be WON’T be pretty!
Why in hell are people using gaslight when it should be called what it truly is, codependency. Ronald is using the Bible to be mentally abusing his family.
Idiots like Ronald are the reason I gave up on organized religion. Phyllis needs to pack up and move in with her sister (or as the chapter title alludes, kick Ronald out).
As for the verse Phyllis is looking for, ‘Suffer not the fools’ works.
I like Phyllis. She is a good person and honestly believes in the Lord. The sooner she realizes that Ronald DOESN’T and only uses the Bible and Christianity as a tool to get what he wants, the better off she’ll be.
As far as Ronald’s concerned, he still won because he broke Jocelyn and drove her to flee, thus removing the biggest threat to his campaign. He has no reason to fear Phyllis as she’s long ago been broken to be the perfect 50s housewife: meek, God-fearing, and obedient til death do they part.
His assumption that she has no thoughts of her own may yet be his undoing.
Ooh, SO close. The cracks are starting to show, but she’s not quite strong enough to overcome her years of brainwashing just yet. Give it time, though; as long as Ronald continues being his own shitty, monstrous self, I’m sure he’ll eventually do something so awful that it’ll drive her over the edge.
God, it really makes you wonder if Ronald’s parents are proud that their son tried to kill his daughter, manipulate and abuse his wife and in general is a very shitty person.
Because I don’t think that’s how they raised him, and if it was… whoo boy.
Ronald is a fucking disgusting excuse for a human. Using God to gaslight your own wife into obedience? Spanking your own daughter in front of a live audience, shooting at minors, those are minor infractions compared to using faith as a means to dictate and rule over those around you. He’s become the new most dangerous character in this story, taking over from old continuity Kevin.
@Heathinvader Good answer. Great Answer.

And is guilt-tripping his wife what a good loving Christian husband would do, Ronald? No, it’s what a rotten manipulative one would do.
Third panel: realistically, the emphasis should be on “obedient”, not “Christian”, coming from him. *That*’s what’s really important to him, clearly.
Careful there, Ronnie. If she’s gets convinced she’s going to hell for dumping you, she might decide to just kill you since the penalty is the same.
Next time we see Ron and Phyllis, she had BETTER end up leaving him!
I really hope things work out for her.
Once again, Ronald Stafford. Go to Hell!
Ronald, you disgusting piece of shit.
I want Jesse to kill him off, so bad.

She better leave him later on. Ron should be in fucking jail at this point.
Phyllis’s doubt is continuing to grow. And it will explode once we get to November. Also, that look Ronald is giving in the third panel is scary.
…do I need to say anything by this point?
He really turned her into a hopeless slave.
Good for Phyllis for actually taking the time to double check and not just take Ron’s words for it.
