@Pichu- I am not to blame for your lack of reading comprehension. I shouldn’t need to bullet-point everything either.
@Jayster- What does not? The quicker pair-up of Aaron and Kendra would seem to advance the plot this time, if there was a plot. And we finally got some answers about the missing Rick, that’s good. The ‘strip has settled down into the daily life of the gang, instead of working towards an end-goal or two. It’s not about the destination anymore. It hasn’t become about the journey, either. It just drifting along. Nice in it’s own way. But instead of some focus and the strange/humorous things that happen to Joel to accomplish that, it’s just meandering along and getting lost in Joscelin and Lindsey stories.
JB:”no one believes me when I tell them Nineteen-Ninety-Something isn’t full of despair and misery anymore”
Alright, let’s explore that.

Unrelated to this current arc, that is. I should have clarified. If Rick means well and goes about it as you portray him now, it does cast him in a better light.
Don’t worry J.B. If the way you portray Kevin here in this new continuity is anything to go by, I believe he would actually go out of his way to protect Lindsay if she was ever in danger.
@jbwarner86: I think they’re just not used to Rick smiling without malicious intent in his eyes. Which is a good thing because I swear he’s even BIGGER in this continuity.
J.B., for what it’s worth, I have not thought much about previous continuities at all with this reboot. What little I have didn’t really last long as you’ve not given any reason to believe anything will ever go back to how it was in a previous continuity.
I mean, really, you can see it in the eyes of the characters.
I’m so sorry, it’s just such a sharp contrast from how he used to be, and I did in fact expect him to be more “comedically ignorant” than “maliciously ignorant,” as Hanlon’s Razor indicates that one should, but even though I’m not the most sporty of people, I suppose I should stop trying to make up for it by going for the gold in the Olympic long jump to conclusions. And I guess that might go for all of us. Sorry, Jesse.
Once again, as usual, no one believes me when I tell them Nineteen-Ninety-Something isn’t full of despair and misery anymore.
Not that it’s much of a spoiler, but no, Rick is not putting on an act. He’s not a hateful alcoholic wife-beater in this version, because if you’ll recall, that was one of the reasons I started over in the first place. He’s oblivious and kind of selfish, and he’s pretty ignorant of when he’s making people uncomfortable, but he still cares about Aaron and wants to do right by him, even if he doesn’t quite get how to do that. You’ll see as the story unfolds.
I wish people would stop instantly assuming every time that this new continuity will inevitably become as bleak and miserable as the old one, like you’re just waiting for me to become a bad writer again. We’re two strips into this story and some people are already writing their own bad endings and projecting them onto me. I’m constantly trying to give you guys something better this time, and some of you genuinely don’t seem to believe I can.
I still space out thinking about the time he blew a gasket and smashed Aaron’s mixtape. I hope his behavior doesn’t escalate to that level of savagery in this version.
Oh, good, JB didn’t physically change Rick. “called a job” Does she not approve of the hardware store that should take up all of Rick’s time and attention, or did he lose that too?
Uhg, the aggressively happy attitude of Rick. That never works out or goes well, in my experience.
Either Rick’s putting on a show while in Marion’s presence…or he’s not as “Great Santini” as we thought. We’ll see once the men are alone…and Aaron admits to having an African-American girlfriend…
Marion’s first appearance in the comic and already she ain’t havin’ it. I also like that she has a job in this version, it gives a greater sense of independence on her part considering how controlling Rick was towards her in the original.
And I can already tell Rick is pulling the ole’ “Bitch in Sheep’s Clothing” act. He looks more stressed than usual (which is saying something) like he’s struggling to try and make everything look better than they really are. But we ALL know he’ll fall right off the deep end. And given his temper, I doubt that’ll take long.
My only worry is if Rick will receive actual punishment and/or character development in this version and that it will happen much sooner. In the original, just like with Kevin and Lindsay, there was WAAAAY too much focus on Rick’s asshole behavior, to the extent where it began to belabor the point more than anything. Not to mention, it took a long time before we got to see Rick experience any sort of development (which never even received a resolution as it happened right before the comic was rebooted).
I know you’re trying to aim for a more happier approach with these characters, but I feel it’s best to not have my hopes up too high.
Looks like Marion’s a realtor in this continuity. And it seems that Rick is pulling the Wolf in Sheep’s clothing act right now. But something tells me Rick’s true colors may be coming out soon enough. Also, I loved the burn Marion delivered towards Rick in the second panel.

@Mole204 Yeah no, it REALLY does not
@Mole204, your argument makes zero coherent sense….

There he is!
No offense, but it’s pretty surreal seeing him so…happy!
Ooh, this is a nice new characterization! Kinda the bumbling dad of the 90’s and 2000’s sitcoms, I’m here for it!
I never read the original continuity, so I’m looking forward to this, without any apprehensions.

Well, at least he’s trying. I could get behind this version of Rick as much as the newer Kevin.

Damn is it satisfying seeing Marion not take Rick’s BS for even a moment.

Honestly, I kinda like this Rick. He feels like a very 90s sitcom dad thus far. Kinda reminds me of my old man.
Marion’s first appearance in the comic and already she ain’t havin’ it. I also like that she has a job in this version, it gives a greater sense of independence on her part considering how controlling Rick was towards her in the original.

A little toned down, but Rick still has his core character traits.
