Actually, I just learned this, old hand-drawn cartoon films had twelve frames per second to save time and carpal tunnel.
So, going over Michelle’s math, that’s twelve times sixty for seven hundred and twenty. Multiplied by ninety that’s 64800 pages.
On average, one standard pine tree produces ten thousand pages, so if we divide that’s only 6,48 trees cut down. Which we can round up to seven if we count pages that were discarded/broken/messed up.
So hey, seven trees for an hour and a half of “don’t cut down trees”. Not that bad of a balance.
@lisa H I thought the drawings were scaned into the computer to be worked on, thus, elimiating the whole cel process. Or was Disney the only one doing that at this point?
Honestly, I thought Micheal Lyons on “Animation Scoop” did a WAY better tribute to this film than this that parrots a certain Internet Videot’s “review”. Although, I admit it was decent, but not as great as a certain animation feature that came out later in the year.
The Tim Curry character..Nexus, his name was?..Was positively the most EROTICALLY animated character I’ve ever seen in any animated film! And we did have Robin Williams in a pre-ALADDIN appearance….
Plastic transparency stills do bring that number down, and preliminary drawings do bring the number up again. But it can’t be that bad.
Joel and Michelle crash Denise’s mood, but it’s still an ok movie.
The last several real-time years do seem to have been trying to murder us right in the face.
Well, they might’ve saved some paper if they animated the film on 2s.
Also, it’s nice that you remade this comic in time for the film’s 30th anniversary.

It…had nice character design?
Right?
Yes?
All the plastic animation cels are way worse than the trees for paper!
Poor Denise. I tell ya what, that girl ain’t right.
As if Rupert Murdoch gives a shit about solar panels. Haha
Yeah, FernGully was an alright film. Though the visuals were good.
