I’ll say this: I like this version of Rick a lot better than the angry at the world rageaholic. While I appreciate Miriam’s non-doormat persona, I think we need to see more of the reasons for her alienation from Rick than ‘you don’t have a job now’.
There hasn’t been a draft since Vietnam, nor will there be, as long as the armed forces can find enough brave young suckers to fill their ranks. Also, we haven’t had an actual declaration of war, since government finds undeclared foreign military excursions more to their taste. Depending on when this takes place, they’re in the post-Cold War drawdown, so the military isn’t looking for many people, anyway.
Mole204: If you want to include undeclared wars, the United States of America has been in an armed conflict with some foreign power or other… pretty much continuously since 1860. However, the USA hasn’t formally declared war since 1942
Ah, the explanation of the hardware store! On the other hand it’ll mean no Rick dealing with Denise picketing the store for unecological practices one day, buying nails or wood for flower boxes the next day. And Rick’s right. If Mrs Fitzsimmons dropped a bathtub on herself then that’s her actions and her fault.
As for Aaron getting drafted, aren’t they in the middle of the only real war going on for America for the next 20 years? There’s others, like the War on Drugs, various African self-exterminations, and the Russian breakup/annexing re-attempts, but not anything requiring a draft.
For once, it sounds like Mrs. Fitzsimmons actually did some sort of good for Aaron and his mom. Granted, Rick said it was her own fault, but since this is Rick we’re talking about, it’s hard to tell how honest he’s being.
I also find it interesting how Rick’s assholism… I don’t wanna say it’s subtle, but it’s very much in the “innocently insensitive” route. Like, Rick shows far more genuine concern for Aaron’s well-being compared to the original, but he’s blinded by rather skewed ideologies.
@KaptainJay
I’m flattered you think I work with JB on his comics, but no, I’m just a long time follower of his content XD

Just…just stop. You’re sounding more pathetic by the second.
Lost the hardware store, and confirmed he shot his own toes off.

@KaptainJay, JBWarner is the author of the comic. Jayster is a longtime follower of it.
Is it TheJayster49 or jbwarner86 who rights this comic or are they a team. I saw both names in the comment in other strips and I’m a bit unsure.

Dang, that’s a bit of Karma for Rick right there.
Ahhhhhhhh, so THAT’S what happened with Rick’s store.

Sheesh, Rick . . .
