Arnold… I do have to wonder if you’ve read more than a month’s worth of strips in this reboot. This continuity is far and away better than the previous one, which was going in directions that JB himself didn’t like and the majority of us regulars and longtime readers were liking less and less. Characters like Kevin and pre-redemption Tina were unlikeable, Katy had no depth, Joel’s personality was leaning towards being too one-sided, and apart from Aunt Vicky and William Maxwell, there were virtually no likeable adults. At all.

Also, Eric’s become more confident, Kevin’s starting to hang out with Joel and Michelle, and Tina helped a boy deal with his overbearing mother.

@Arnold I’m starting to think that you’ve never ever reading this version. Kindly fuck off!

    @Arnold
The lead B-word cheerleader got kicked off, Joel and his band left school to try and pursue a career in music but are finding it much more difficult with the manager they ended up with, Ashleigh got a girlfriend, Eric and Jenny have officially become a couple, Katy is JUST LEARNING that there’s more to love than just looks, Principle Mulroney got fired for letting power go to his head, Vince went through a story arc of his own (albeit a bit too fast), the college girls have found newer careers to pursue after they finished their whole cheerleading gig, a girl who was taken advantage of has learned to stand up for herself (albeit was a bit of a B-word about it at first), Lindsay is learning that the world around her is not always as easy as she thinks nor is it always sunshine and rainbows…

Plenty has happened. And plenty is still happening. Some of it is just taking its sweet time building up to bigger pay-offs.

Tell me everything that’s happened since the reboot started, what’s happened plot-wise?

@Arnold Sure it was dark and interesting things happened… but was it fun to read? I don’t think many people have fond memories over that previous version that they’d wanna go back to unless they want to be passionately mad about something, and I don’t think that’s what JB wants for his stories and characters.

I’m sure JB’s following his instincts in how he wants his stories and characters to be received. Even if one perceives them as “boring”… at least they’re not hated.
I’d rather be friends with a boring likable person than a fascinating, interesting, yet all-around TERRIBLE person.

Guys, what’s happened since JB rebooted story-wise? Nothing!
The characters have not evolved, they have not matured.
Of course, before the reboot the drama was very intense and I agree that a little dark things happened, but at least you saw that the characters matured, that they realized they had flaws, that they changed for the better.
Now there hasn’t been an interesting situation in a long time.

@Arnold If you don’t like it, don’t read it!

Real character development doesn’t happen in 3 strips, Arnold… a good storyteller like JB knows this.

It’s nice seeing them all interact on friendly terms, even if things get a bit awkward.

    Man…really?
I can’t describe this series other than with one word “boring”
It seems as if the characters are perpetually on a glass dome or that they are always happily ever after puppets. There is not the slightest conflict and if there is a conflict it is resolved within a panel.
Do you want to do daily strips like “Peanuts” without continuity? then don’t do story arcs or at least make them entertaining, for god’s sake!!!

    I’m wondering if this might be a big secret of Patricia’s… it’s not that she doesn’t read… it’s that she can’t? 😮

Reading? Hmm, does the pamphlet at the spa count? Does the TV guide channel count? Does the information on the back of a Lean Cuisine count?

@Ghost: No, it seems she does not.

I’m a bit curious. Have we ever seen her read PERIOD? Not to call her illiterate, of course.

The awkwardness is real. Also, The Bridges of Madison County got a movie starring Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep in 1995.

I think making sure you actually share interests with other people is the biggest key to making friends, Patricia.
