Sadly, this was the prevailing thought process for American schools in the ‘90s. They didn’t care if we actually LEARNED. All that mattered was that we be able to fill in the bubble sheets, then get a job in some soul-crushing office and die from an stress-induced heart attack.

@Mole204: Are you sure you’re reading this strip day to day? Because it’s been pretty clear Joel is SWAMPED with work outside of the school deciding to dump the PreSATs on them all. He’s not goofing off and putting work to the last minute, quite the opposite, he’s trying to find space for everything else.

@Mole204 Wow… I haven’t come across a more ignorant dumbass on this page in a while. Thank you sir.

at Christoper- Mulroney is right that it’s time to stop playtime and time to start doing some schoolwork. It’s additionally true that there are free periods in school, so there should be time for Joel to do whatever he wants. School gives you textbooks, so students should read the whole thing instead of sitting in class reading one page per day only when they are forced to. So yes, Joel is the wrong one here, for not studying until “Oops, cram time.” But that’s the setup for the story this chapter.

“Seven hours to herself every day”?

Is he aware she’s a teacher? I guess he probably wouldn’t care either way.

I am surprised Mulroney isn’t giving huge phrases to their sports team, while the rest of the student body?

“They be giving you a number, and taking away your name~!”

Wait, that’s Secret Agent Man. Hope Tina can do something, or her son could end up in the ER.

Huh. And I thought Tucker was the jaded tool in the system. I guess it all starts from the top… and to answer Tina’s question, I’m gonna say no.

@Christopher Max Wall. At this point, I think Mole is JB’s old school principal, trying to bring down the website for painting him in a negative light.

@Mole204: Which part was he making a good point about? That students should bury their actual interests in the name of learning cold factoids so they can fill in bubbles on a scantron?

Choose your next words with EXCEPTIONAL care.

Mulroney has not learnt anything from past experiences.

@TheJayster49: I do not think Tina will replace him as the principal because she has her job in the elementary school. Maybe she will pick another person for that? Also, Linsday has had her own troubles in recent story arcs but still she was able to help Jocelyn and Selina recently.

@JIMENOPOLIX: But at least, Skinner DOES care for his students (even the troublesome ones). Mulroney, on the other hand…

This is totally unrelated… but I kind of imagine Principal Mulroney sounds like Principal Skinner from “The Simpsons”.

    Also, he’s an A-hole.
I wonder where it all goes from that last line from Tina.

Mulrony was making a good case there up to the last bit of panel 3. If you don’t want to cram, then you shouldn’t have wasted your time up until then.
Also, milk is best for ulcers, probably.

I hope this leads to positive permanent change.
I mean school is horrible, but it doesn’t have to be!

Basically Mulroney is going “I want your son to be the most boring and insignificant individual on this planet. And when he dies, he will be little more than a statistical number and forgotten.” Jeez, even looking at that imbecile is enough to give me agita.

I don’t Mulroney was ever happy.

My money is currently betting that Tina’s gonna try and become the new principal of that school and see just how hellish it really is there.

Cause I mean, if Lindsay hasn’t been able to improve things there as student body president (from what little we’ve seen at least), I’m curious to see what other people will be able to accomplish.
