LOL, she cracked so easily. And I love the irony that she blames Tina when Deb set herself up for a fall herself not by not really listening to her son. Then when put on blast by him on live TV, the crazy comes out and with it goes that smug sense of entitlement she’s been racking up over her appearances. One thing to hide that facade, only showing it with your “rival”, another when it’s in front of a live audience. Then again I’m sure Madonna would’ve made her look like a fool regardless. Haha.

@Mole204: Here’s what you are failing to understand.

“There is no freedom of expression in ‘whatever useless random swearing you’re thinking of right now.’ Media would be better without it.” That’s your opinion, what you think should not be allowed in the media. Not everyone shares that opinion, and many other people have their own lists of “undesirable” content that they would like outlawed. For some people, it’s homosexuality or any reference to it. For others, it’s sexual content. For still others, it’s violence. Everyone has something that triggers them. And any topic, no matter what it is, will always be offensive to somebody.

The point is that if everyone got to dictate what other people can and cannot say…then nobody would ever say anything at all.

And that’s exactly why freedom of speech and freedom of expression exist — to prevent any one person or group from forcing their own personal biases or opinions on society at large.

The best part about Mole’s frequently backhanded “suggestions”, is they can, will be, and are duly disregarded.

He strikes me as the kind of guy who’d get into a fight with Jeff Dunham and his puppets… and we all know what Walter would say to him.

@Mole204 Like it or not, swear words are still words and a part of “freedom of expression”. Get over it. Oh yeah, and the Constitution’s there to already allow people to express their “degeneracy” however you so narrow mindedly define it. And without their rights being impeded on too, just so you know.

Megajar- I have been reading the same comic, I just tend to root for different characters than expected. Deb’s not wrong about some of it, though she was based on people who _were_ wrong about all of it.
There is no freedom of expression in “whatever useless random swearing you’re thinking of right now.” Media would be better without it.
No one cares about the Constitution, they only care about whatever lines they can pick out of it that they can maybe make sound like it will support their own degeneracy.
Do I root for the Terminator? Sometimes- there’s a lot of movies and a tv series. Point is, Deb’s core argument to put forth is not wrong. Not morally, not logically, not socially. But Deb’s character is a very cleaned up version of a morality panic that happened in the 1990s. Not a real one, a fake one used as cover by parents to stick their nose where it doesn’t belong, to take anything away they wanted to, and to blame everybody except themselves for things going wrong. I’m sure that there were a lot of bratty teenagers involved that needed to sit down, shut up, and do their homework instead of watching Baywatch or drugs or something, but it’s something that spread beyond such demographics. Readers who remember the earlier incarnation of Tina in this arc- that is a closer depiction to the ‘panic parents’ who would go nuts because they saw a news report about something that happened in a different state and suddenly believe that their own children are somehow committing the same act. Stupid, stupid, people. Deb is a good parent in comparison. Deb’s media bill, as it was barely explained, would just stop any media that would deserve a “content warning” sticker, which would already deserve a “content warning” sticker so it had it coming. Me, I think that song writers and movie writers and JB himself should just spend a few seconds more on what they’re doing and create something better instead of having swearing in the work they’re doing. Whatever you call it- radio edit, age rating, it’s the right thing to do as a people, a collection of nations, and a human being. There’s opportunity for so much more creativity, class, and intelligence that way. But people are going to be crybabies because they have to do their work instead of sprinting to the next smoke break or fake-reason to crack open a beer.

@Anon: Oh, fuck me, I sincerely hope not. That is not only a cliche about as exciting as a sales report for a mattress company, it’s got, like, zero basis in reality, and I blame Ryan Murphy partly for its spread.

Oh lord, I’ve been so fixated on Quayle’s illiteracy that I forgot he waged war on a sitcom. (that’s what that thing about single mothers is referring to)

@MegaJar: I even asked him then if he’s read the Constitution lately. I received no response.

@Mole204: …Have you been reading the same comic as we have? Robbing people of free speech (or, more accurately, freedom of expression) is exactly what Deb’s bill would have done. May I present Exhibit A: panel 2 of the August 29 comic ([link]).

Thankfully, said bill is now pretty much doomed thanks to Deb’s predictable, yet oh-so-satisfying, meltdown on national TV.

@JIMENOPOLIX Jessica tried that in last month’s story when she went to kill Lindsay and have sex with Craig, but this time, Deb’s reasons will be only to kill Tina (and her family) in order to “rescue” Jacob.

    Bruh McGee, you may be getting that Phoenix Wright breakdown you’re hoping for. ^^;

And jokes on you, Deb. Even if it is (At the time) cable TV, the local news will be broadcasting your meltdown all over come 11pm.

Calling it now, Deb is closeted gay, and has always felt guilty about it. She’s just like that creepy kid who harassed Jocelyn and the other girls at Joel’s school.

@Sean: Hell, I was surprised by how little I knew about Quayle. Granted, I’m from another country, but US politicians end up being known here anyways just on sheer volume of scandals and “scandals”.

@Mole: You’re the kinda person that roots for the terminator, ain’tcha. And before you jump up my ass about comparing Deb with the terminator, I used him as an example of an obviously amoral individual who is set up to simply be an obstacle for the protagonists.

Also, what the fuck was that crack about her lips, Deb? I never understood people that sneak a compliment into calling someone out, always comes across as mildly homoerotic.

And that is how you ruin your plans without even realizing it. The custody battle for Jacob between Deb and her Ex-husband is going to be messy.

    Welp, her career is ruined.

We still have a week, though… what could possibly go down during that time?

I bet she’s gonna go psycho and march straight to Tina’s house to try and strangle her and drag her boy out of the house.

With the world watching, it will not end well for her.

And her original issue is never resolved, only the point they they strayed into is the one that matters. Like a goat that wanders into a minefield.
Deb never tried to rob anyone of free speech, she only wanted to stop the production of foul languaged media. Nothing wrong there. It’s the “soccer mom” people that Deb’s character was based on that actually wanted to rob free speech, and take away anything else they had a snit over. With about 6 more strips left in the chapter, we may actually get to see the fallout of this instead of “villain discredited, next chapter immediately.”

And so, we can say “arrivederci” to Deb’s sorry excuse of a “morality bill”! Not only that, but just like what TheJayster49 said, destroying that tape won’t do diddly-squat~!

And just like that, whatever remaining credibility Deb has gone right down the toilet. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if Deb was in a straight jacket by the end of this arc.

Deb, you’re on live TV. Everything you said has been said. Destroying that tape won’t do you jack.
