Ah, much better form with that strike, Jos! Attacking with the ‘forward’ arm aligned with the ‘forward leg, striking with the first two knuckles and with a strong exhale… Very good!
I suppose a “Johnny Cage” attack paired with a ducking “splits” might have been problematic, and Sonya Blade’s ‘inverted leg-throw” maneuver seems lass suited to Jos’ style, assuming that “Motral Kombat” isn’t anachronistic for this loint in the decade.
Overall, though, I enjoyed the visual pun best of all: she’s a female victim of sexual harassment in a patriachical society, so sh’s punching up by punching down…

Hear, hear, JBwarner86, and that’s why I’ve adored Jocelyn from the moment she was first introduced in the original story arc. As for the haters, well, put simply- your vision, your rules. I apologize if I came into the fandom too late to realize that one reason for your reboot was that you were trying to listen to them. I rather thought it was the other way around- that you were getting so much flak that you listened to your detractors and decided to start over. If I ever contributed to your distress, whether it was over the old or the new vision, my apologies. Likewise for playing catch-up now. Myself, I loved the conflict between Jocelyn and Lindsay, and Lindsay’s fall made her redemption all the more sweet and poignant in my eyes, and I love how the gang took her under their wings and accepted her, especially Jocelyn. But Nineteen-Ninety-Something was always much bigger than any one component, and that remains just as true today. At times, it really brightened my day, and I eagerly awaited the next installment. Hands down, it’s great stuff, and a wonderful blend of charm, inclusiveness, sarcasm, wit, and nostalgia. Long may it reign.

@Uncl3BAMF: Well, now I feel less conflicted about the disconnect between me and my detractors, because it’s apparent from that fanfiction down there that you missed the point of Jocelyn’s character.

Jocelyn doesn’t just go around punching people for kicks, nor does she go around looking for excuses to be offended. She always starts out minding her own weird business, and it’s only when other people disrespect or attack her that she starts to defend herself. In other words, she doesn’t fight; she only fights back, and only against people who deserve it. Allie treated her like property and disrespected her orientation. Zeke leers at her and treats her like a fetish object. Ronald wants her to conform to his rigid conservative values just so he can use her as proof in the eyes of God that he’s not a bad person (spoiler: he totally is). And Nathan tried to grope her in public under the false pretense of promoting “moral forthrightness” by trying to dictate what she can and can’t wear.

She doesn’t need to be “taken down a peg”. She’s already on the lowest peg there is, surrounded by terrible people trying to control her life and use her to make themselves look good. So she says “fuck that” and claws her way to the top on her own terms. The people in the comments saying she needs to “learn her place” are using the same kind of language the antagonistic characters in this comic use to try and control Jocelyn’s life. They don’t seem to realize that they’re the exact kind of people that these stories are making fun of.

And despite my own depressive episodes messing with my head, I don’t want to alter my vision to try and please a crowd that wants me to change to suit them. Nineteen-Ninety-Something is an exploration of the rebellious punk-rock DIY attitude of the ’90s. I admire that confident creative attitude because that’s the kind of person I’ve wished I could be all my life. If I caved to the demands of people who don’t get that, then the whole thing would fall apart – just like it did last time. I’m not doing that again.

@Pichu-82 Robot asked for my thoughts, i gave him my thoughts. Whether Jesse sees it and reads it or not is inconsequential.

Uncl3BAMF, I hope you’re ready for that wall of text to be disregarded by Jesse, as you have presented nothing new. As others have already been told several times, this is Jesse’s comic, and he’s not going to change anything to try and please his haters. He tried that before, and the previous continuity is the shitstorm that happened as a result.

Okay, I felt that the premise of this episode does hold some merit, in light of the real life events it’s parodying. But the whole demonizing him into some disturbed pervert or having a psychotic break here at the very end just feels like we’re going back into the same territory the previous rendition did with other characters (the psycho dad as an example). Not to mention Mole’s previous statement on Jocelyn never getting any punishment at all for her behavior or attitude.

There could be better ways to handle this episode and the events its parodying. Maybe instead of Nathan actually purposefully grabbing at Jocelyn, it was an accident because of untied shoelaces or clumsiness. Instead of that book falling out of his bag (and that he’s some crazy pervert), he embarrassingly admits he has had times where he doesn’t tie his laces and falls over accidentally flailing and grabbing onto things, and others speak up about this too, as they begin to contradict Jocelyn’s statement.

Hell maybe Jocelyn too hell bent to get back at the kid, takes a crowbar to try and pry Nathan’s locker open to see if he’s hiding a pinup picture because he’s acting all weird about it. Stops her from doing it, again trips and falls into Jocelyn, when she tries to shove back, Mr. Tucker finally steps in and says its enough.

Jocelyn gets detention, talks with Steve, asks his opinion on the matter if Nathan was actually a pervert or if maybe she overstepped just a little bit too far. And to add a bit of comedy see Nathan showing off his lace-less shoes or loafers or whatever to his friends so he never falls victim to being accused as a pervert.

I wrote more details down, but that’s just my two cents for now. There are a few side characters in this comic, even Nathan, who I feel could have some great character building to their lives and be less one off notes. Instead we get, well…this.

I sadly feel that this ‘episode’ really fell flat for me,, despite its interesting beginning and premise based off the Anita Hill case. I would go more into details on what could make it better buy unsure if anyone wants to hear me post a literal several paragraphs of stuff. If anyone wants to though lemme know, I’d be willing to share my two cents.

NATHAN used MOTORBOAT! It’s not very effective…
    JOCELYN used NUTCRACKER! It’s super-effective!
NATHAN has fainted! JOCELYN gains 100 EXP!

Okay, I was starting to feel a bit of pity for Nathan – even before the dickpunch. After panel 3, not so much.

OK, I laughed. If this was real life, I don’t know whether to give him points for having the guts to do something so outrageous, or in the comic if he should get points for doing something so outrageously brave. But either way, yeah, 4th panel is exactly what he should expect. We might be seeing Goselyn asking for Hercules bands for Christmas for better muscle tone next year.
Farewell for now, Nathan. Enjoy the Guidance Department’s amateur psychologists. Oh, and someone asked if I was defending the Nathan that was tearing up National Geographics- hard no. Don’t damage books. Those are very good legitimate reference books for a pre-internet world, too. Someone’s going to be failing a science class because of Nathan.
At least he broke before he was backstoried into being a streaker, or a non-Rocky-Horror Frank N Furter costume nut. Ain’t nobody need to see that.
It’s too bad that JB is such a stickler for the year, or else Nathan would be singing Frollo’s “Hell fire” from Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame from the roof or something.

Criminy, I could hear that nut punch Jocelyn gave that little weasel… In fact, I swear I can even feel the impact of it, too!
