    @TheJayster49: Oh yeah, I forgot Tina was a teacher too. OK, so we’ve got ONE good teacher in this comic, at least.

    Little Joel continues to be snarkily adorable. And I can only assume that it’s Steve in the back, despite no name tag below the comic.

    Ahh, the innocence-destroying moment when your genuine question is dismissed as “sass” or “smart-assery”. You can tell that Panel 2 is when the last filter breaks and Joel goes for broke.

    She’s watching on Betamax because you couldn’t record on SelectaVision CED.

    ok, am I crazy, or does little Joel look a bit like Danny Torrance from “The Shining”?

    @MegaJar

    I just thought about it, and realized Tina is the opposite of all the other teachers in the comic. Whereas just about every other teacher we’ve seen thus far as jaded and pessimistic, Tina appears to enjoy her job and wants to get connected with her students. Problem is, none of the students respect her.

    Granted, none of the students period in the comic respect any teacher (or any kind of adult for that matter), but my point still stands.

    Even as a kid, Joel was snarky.

    OK, seriously, are there ANY teachers in this universe that actually LIKE teaching? This is at least the third one we’ve seen who shows nothing but hate for their jobs and contempt for their students.

    Also, Miss Sheedy looks a lot like the original Patrica.

    A teacher and Betamax? She chose poorly…

    If only that Arthur Howard book “When I Was Five” was published in Joel’s time instead of ’96. Maybe that would’ve helped a little. (skip to 24:17) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTfjG_9Di6E&t=2s

    This is appallingly flashback inducing. Anyway, I can’t tell if Kid2 is just bored, or Steve. What things does Joel like outside of rock and roll? If anything, this arc should give some good foundational moments for the characters.
    If Steve: “I’m just going to sit here and write a 1st grade version of the Hacker Manifesto in my head.”

    Even as a kid, Joel was still somewhat of a smartaleck. Clearly he’s more shy and nervous, which I’m glad because it helps make him feel more genuinely childlike.

    Also, for the record, you might wanna think about your career goals now Joel. Cause I don’t think fate will allow you to think about them AFTER college.

    Granted, it does depend on the degree you want, but still.
