For what it’s worth, I agree with them, but I liked the original Mortal Kombat film. Though the reboot game did a better job of telling the story.

I am so glad that Jocelyn finally has a better living situation. Sad that it took this long but we all know Vicky would take her in in a heartbeat.

I’m guessing Steve will have a lot to say about Mortal Kombat vs. DC Super Heroes, which I doubt we’re going to see in this comic.

I thought it was fine. I guess having grown up in the 80s with Saturday morning cartoon versions of Rambo, Robocop, and the Toxic Avenger desensitized me to non-violence. ;p

I actually thought Mortal Kombat was pretty good. Probably the best video game-based movie of its time. Sure, it wasn’t gory, but it was entertaining and actually stuck to the premise of the source material. And unlike the abysmal Street Fighter movie, it actually made sense to have dramatic one-on-one martial arts battles to the death, as it was in the context of a tournament where that sorta thing is supposed to happen.

I will note, though, that they definitely missed an opportunity at the end. When Kitana says “Face your enemy, face yourself, and face your worst fear”, when the “face yourself” trial came around, that would have been the perfect spot for a Mirror Match, where Liu Kang literally fights a copy of himself. But no, he just spouts some heroic dialog about how Shang Tsung doesn’t own his soul, runs up some stairs, and boom, end of trial. Lame.

Thought they were talking about Annihilation, but then I remembered this was 95. I mean yeah it wasn’t Rated-R but it was still pretty fun and yeah folk died in the film. Wasn’t gore-y but there was still death. Heck I was in e5th grade when this came out and my friends still enjoyed it despite no gore. So eh? Maybe were expecting too much. Also where was that speech when Turtles II came out Joyce? =P.

I remember I saw this movie in the 90s.
    I remember enjoying it then.
I do not think I will tarnish the memories with any inconvenient facts.

“Do you remember anybody dying in this?”
    Sub-zero: impaled on an icicle
    Kano: neck snapped
Scorpion: head sliced open then exploded
    Goro: fell into infinite abyss
    Reptile: crushed underfoot
Shang Tsung: impaled on a metal spike

*Every* bad guy died in this movie. Just because there wasn’t any blood it didn’t register with you?

Steve wants to see a spine ripped out? Invite Ronald over.

@GumbyIsInnocent THAT I’ll agree with…though I was all right with that, too. Just seemed they were trying to find a way to cram all the characters in the same story…and came up more ridiculous than intriguing.

Still better than the Street Fighter movie…

Hey, I kinda liked the first MK film. Didn’t NEED to be gory, as far as I’m concerned. The damn game was based on old style kung-fu movies…and the MK movie was exactly that. It was the SEQUEL that sucked eggs!

I expected a MK parody, but still, it referenced it.

Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa OWNS the movie as Shang Tsung. One of the best movie villain performances of the 90s.

Yeah, the original Mortal Kombat movie could have been a lot better. Also, nice to see Jocelyn in a much more upbeat mood ever since she moved in with her Aunt Vicky.

This is so funny considering one of the trailers I got while I was at the movies today was one for the upcoming Mortal Kombat film XD
