Whoops, there it is.
Thing is, Phyllis is brainwashed enough that if Ronnie had delivered that line from the rally about kids needing discipline she’d probably buy it. But the fact he’s lying shows that he knows he did the wrong thing. By lying, he’s giving her permission to doubt him.
Ronald does realize Phyllis’ whole friend group say him do the things he just lied about, right? Does he really believe she’ll believe him over ALL of them>
What she should do is corroborate Jocelyn’s statement. I mean, THERE WERE WITNESSES! If 10+ people (eyewitnesses no less) confirm that Ronald pulled a fucking shotgun on the teens, then who’s lying? Him or them?
I’m no lawyer, but isn’t this sort of violence and gaslighting grounds for divorce? Phyllis should have every right to kick this lying, sad sack of shit to the curb!
Based on previous parts of this storyline, I WANT TO BELIEVE that Phyllis does care for Jocelyn and wants what’s good for her… and that she can make the right decision to cut out the tumor that’s been slowly killing this family for YEARS. A very Ronald-shaped tumor, just to be clear.
“Lying is a sin” So why aren’t you telling the truth? Besides, I think you already sinned greatly by pulling out a shotgun and firing at minors. Even if you think your daughter is a punk who represents everything wrong with society, you still did the illegal work yourself.

@Jim Or perhaps she’ll KICK Ron out first.
@ExxorD I pray that doesn’t happen… but I can totally see it happening, too.
@TV Head I’m gonna assume there were no cameras at the place where it all went down. The only way any of this would get on the news is if the witnesses report on it, and the cameras could only get shots of where it happened and who witnessed the scene.
@Lourenzo …good question. I guess nobody reported it. Maybe people should report it, but then Ron would argue that there is no proof that it happened at all. Even so, having several witnesses all saying the same thing would pretty much guarantee that something would be done about it.
If anything else, just his wording choices in the 3rd panel (“pretty sure”, “or something like that”) shows how Phyl can sense how much he’s loosing his holier than thou know-it-all persona.
@Jim That is, if Ronald doesn’t beat her senseless. He spanked the ever-living shit out of his daughter, who’s to say he won’t deck his own wife in the face because God told him to?
Hey now, lima beans boiled, then sautéed with butter and bacon? That’s good stuff.
I know it’s a process to have character come to conclusion on reality, but good grief is it frustrating getting there sometimes. Patience, though.
“Do you think I of all people would go against God just to save my own skin?” …Yep.
No way there wasn’t a camera there!

*sighs* Will you PLEASE talk to the other mothers who were there, Phyllis?!?
At least it’s not too late for Phyllis to redeem herself.
Seems that there’s at least hope for Phyllis

Is that a particle, a tiny fraction, a mere iota of spine I sense from Phyllis?
@EBTempest
Apparently it’s essentially tuna salad with peas mixed in…which does nothing to make your statement incorrect.
Unrelated to the plot, but “tuna wiggle” sounds like the most disgusting abomination of food ever conceived by man.

How did he not get arrested
A wannabe-politician pulled a gun on his own daughter, in front a crowd, and spanked her, in front of a crowd.
Phyllis watches TV, we’ve seen that. There’s no way this doesn’t show up on the news.

About that “trust” issue,Phyllis? That ship sailed a long time ago.
Oh, the hypocrisy…
I have a strong feeling that before the year is over, Phyllis will be moving out as well.
The cracks are showing. It’s only a matter of time.
For once, Ronald’s speaking sense.
… About the canned food, that is.
