When Jenny said the NES looked like a VCR that was actually the intent of the design when Nintendo was porting the system to the U.S. cause at the time the video game crash of 1983 was in full effect in the North American gaming market and thus because of the declining interest in video games many retailers refused to sell any gaming related hardware so Nintendo knowing full well of the negative stigma video games had esstentially marketed the NES in NA as cool toy rather than a video game console from the design of the console of course resembling a vcr which was common in American households at the time plus packing int ROB the Robot and the NES Zapper to selling the system in retail chains like toys r us and of course the iconic “now your playing with power” commercials that mixed with Nintendo’s tight grip on licensing 3rd party developers as to make sure no poorly made games were to appear on their system and when it came to their own titles was enough to not only make Nintendo the gaming giant it is today but as well as save the entire gaming industry from fading into obscurity
